On the trail of time

Right on time in La Chaux-de-Fonds

Watches have played an important role in La Chaux-de-Fonds for a very long time now. At first, it was the farmers who began to pursue the art of watchmaking on long winter nights. Today, the city is famous for its watchmakers the world over – it’s the headquarters for quite a few major, exclusive watch manufacturers.
And so it comes as no surprise that our home town has a wide variety of activities to offer visitors from near and far who would like to immerse themselves in the impressive history of the timepieces that are such a crucial part of our everyday lives.
‘In the early 20th century, more than half of all watches sold around the world were made in La Chaux-de-Fonds, already a city of 40,000 residents at the time.’
Visit some of the various watchmaking companies, take part in an introductory course or even build your own mechanical or automatic clock.
